Why another typeface?

Because we are about to read a lot.

More tools now speak back in paragraphs. More work happens through text. Local begins with minimal form to lower visual friction, then leaves in just enough irregularity to feel alive.

01

Less, carefully.

Compact rhythm, disciplined spacing, and ordinary text color. Nothing performs when it can simply communicate.

02

Invite the hand.

Delayed curves and tiny construction biases bring DIY energy without adding noise. Precise is not the same as pristine.

03

Read in real life.

Open counters, distinct look-alikes, and gentle lower gravity are made for changing focus, tired eyes, low vision, and late hours.

01 / Proportional

Local Grotesk

A general-purpose face for interfaces, editorial text, and everyday language. Swiss rhythm gives it calm; authored curves keep the calm from becoming anonymous.

01 / Rhythm

Neutral proportions and compact spacing keep paragraphs even.

02 / Gravity

Subtle lower weight helps orientation without becoming a costume.

03 / Voice

The widest point of a curve lands just off-center: wobble in the logic, never noise on the edge.

02 / Fixed width

Local Mono

Built for the terminal. Every glyph lives in a 616-unit cell, with literal operators, useful punctuation, and no automatic decorative ligatures.

The reader changes.
The type should make room.

A focused morning, an overstimulated commute, a tired night, or a low-energy afternoon can make the same paragraph feel different. Local starts with recognizable forms. You finish the setting.

Reading surface

A note for the long read

Good reading type does not ask to be admired every sentence. It keeps a steady rhythm, leaves counters open, and gives similar characters enough difference to be recognized without a second look. Its personality lives below the volume of the words.

Local is clean, but not blank. A curve arrives a little late. A bowl carries a little more weight below. Repetition feels made rather than stamped. The details are quiet at text size and visible when the letters grow.

Keep it clear. Keep it yours.

Less friction
between you
and the words.
